So, I have an Asus Transformer. Been happy with it since I bought it last August (2011). But two weeks ago, it updated to the latest Android version (Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4). Before I had 3.2 or something. At first I was happy, like two days, and then the shit began.
It has lost so much functionality that was there before. Plus it crashes all the time. It makes Windows Millennium look like a dream to work with.
- to mute music, I could push the buttons on the left side of the tablet and then it would show a volume control on the screen where I could mute. That doesn't work anymore ...
- the browser no longer has a function to pretend it's a desktop-browser. Ffs, I have a screen with 1280 pixels and I get a mobile version of whatever site I visit ... Yay hooray. And have to ask for each site separately to get the 'full' version?
- also, using the arrows of the keyboard dock while browsing doesn't move the page anymore, it just goes from link to link ...
- camera doesn't work in Goodreads, although that may be a problem of the app, and yes I need that to barcode scan
- the look is just not as pretty as before with the ridiculous blue colouring and the rounded corners (but this is just a matter of taste and highly subjective)
Some of these things may seem trivial, but when you browse a lot or listen to music a lot, it can get massively annoying. Especially if it's about features you've been using daily (or more) for months and they are suddenly gone with no decent alternative. There must be more things but these are the ones I can remember just now.
And it crashes so much ... A few days ago, it thought the dock was still attached so I didn't get the onscreen keyboard or couldn't change the landscape layout to portrait. Yesterday my home screen only showed my background image and no shortcuts, widgets or anything ... So it was basically useless. Sometimes it seems to shut down by itself or crashes after I have put it in standby so I can't start-up in the normal way when I want to use it afterwards.
I'm wondering whether others are experiencing these kinds of problems too ...
There are some pros too: easier to disable wifi when only using the tablet, easier to kill apps or remove them from the recently used list. Can't think of any others just now.
